Biography of Ellen Gold
Ellen Gold's career includes 27 years of progressive experience in higher education, with the past 20 years at Eastern Michigan University. She currently serves as the Director of University Health Services, a position she has held since 1986. In this role, she is responsible for the financial, personnel and operational activities of Snow Health Center, Counseling Services, the Health Education Program, Employee Wellness, and the Children's Institute. Ellen has been successful in writing and securing large federal, state and foundation grants for the university. She also serves in various roles on special divisional and university assignments.
Her most recent activities involve an emphasis on cross-divisional collaborations. She currently chairs the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Constituent Services Committee, the Employee Wellness Committee, the DSA Gold Medallion Awards Program Committee, and a DSA Emergency Response Plan Committee. In addition, she is serving on the university's Professional Development Steering Committee, Continuous Improvement Advisory Committee, and Women of EMU ACE (American Council on Education) Network Steering Committee.
Ellen has served as a consultant and national speaker in the area of organizational development, as well as alcohol and other drug prevention. She has been serving as a Center Associate for the U.S. Department of Education's (DOE) Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention, conducting training for individual campuses as well as state coalitions in the areas of Strategic Planning, Team Building, Program Development and Evaluation. She also has served as a DOE grant reviewer and as an evaluator for the DOE's Biennial Review Audit. She serves on The Century Council's Education Advisory Board and served on their Alcohol 101 Plus Expert Panel. Ellen recently served as a member of the NIAAA Task Force on College Drinking and has served as the Program Chair and Section Chair for the Administration Section of the American College Health Association.
Ellen holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Education from the University of Michigan. She also earned an M.B.A. from Eastern Michigan University.
