David Anderson, Ph.D. serves as an Associate Professor and Director, Center for the Advancement of Public Health, Department of Health, Fitness and Recreation Resources, Graduate School of Education, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He coordinates numerous national, state and local projects; teaches courses on drug and alcohol issues, community health, and health communications; and conducts research and evaluation on college and community health. Areas of expertise include underage drinking prevention, strategic planning, traffic safety, and accountability.
Dr. Anderson's primary specialty is college alcohol abuse prevention. He co-authors two national surveys, served as the co-director of the Promising Practices: Campus Alcohol Strategies project (resulting in publication of the Sourcebook 2001, Task Force Planner, and the Action Planner) and co-edited Charting Your Course: A Lifelong Guide to Health and Compassion.
Early in his career, Dr. Anderson served as a student affairs administrator in positions as the Director of Residence Life at Ohio University, the Director of Residential Life at Radford University, and a Residence Hall Director at The Ohio State University. He received his B.A. from Duke University, his M.S. from The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. in Public Policy/Public Affairs from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
